In this website, those unfamiliar with the thought of
Rabbi Zeev Haim Lifshitz will be delighted to find the work of “a son searching
for the path to his Father in heaven, the path of awe and love as one, a path
full of constant innovation [that of]
a believer trying to live his faith” (from Rabbi Lifshitz’s Introduction to
the Commentary), a faith whose kernels are to be found in the depths of the
biblical stories.
Mixing a keen eye for the text with a thorough knowledge of
classical rabbinical works and training in Western psychology, Rabbi Lifshitz
journeys through the weekly Torah portions constantly weaving the warp and woof
of his unique message. A message that Judaism, in contrast and in
contradistinction, to Western psychology, philosophy, and literature, has its
own unique approach to understanding G-d, mankind and the world.
Placing the
Self and the Ego
at the center of the
traditionally Jewish,
Worlds of Creation and Production (Doing)--
four of many concepts defined in detail in his theoretical mini-essays in the Glossary
-- Rabbi Lifshitz, scion of the great Lithuanian scholarly dynasties, and
student of Jean Piaget’s at the University of Geneva, builds a remarkably
detailed picture of human existence, a picture both spiritually elevating and
intellectually demanding, one sure to challenge and enthrall its readers.
